Junior | We have got great belief
Junior Hoilett spoke to Sky Sports immediately following City’s 2-0 victory over Leeds United on Sunday afternoon.
The Canadian winger opened the scoring at Cardiff City Stadium, firing home a brilliant left-footed drive after 35 minutes.
“We worked hard from front to back,” Junior began. “We have got great belief in this squad. Before the break we had momentum and we needed to carry that on. We’ve got a few players back who were injured before too, who came off the bench and helped us.
“We knew they would have the majority of possession so he had to stay compact and make them try and play through us and hit them on the counter.”
Junior and his teammates paid tribute to Bluebirds legend Peter Whittingham after the opening goal.
“It was a touching moment. He was a good friend and a great teammate.
“It was great to score a Peter Whittingham-type goal with my left foot in tribute.”
The Bluebirds head to Preston North End next Saturday, with the two sides level on points. The Lilywhites sit in the final play-off spot ahead of City on just goal difference with eight games remaining.
“It is a major game. They’re fighting for the play-off places as well. It is a six pointer. We have to prepare as well as we did today.”
