International Bluebirds | 2022 FIFA World Cup Call-Ups
Mark Harris and Rubin Colwill have been selected to represent Wales at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The duo, who both came through the Cardiff City Academy before moving into the First Team squad, were named by Rob Page in the 26-man squad for the tournament, which gets underway on November 20th.
Rubin made his senior Wales debut back in June 2021, coming off the bench in a friendly match against France. The midfielder scored his first goal for the national team earlier this year, netting an equaliser in a friendly match against Czechia.
Sparky came off the bench in a 3-2 victory over Belarus in September 2021 to make his Wales bow. The 23-year-old has five senior international caps to his name.
Rubin and Sparky will be joined in the squad by fellow former Cardiff City Academy graduates Aaron Ramsey and Chris Gunter, who were also named in the squad by ex-Bluebird Page on Wednesday evening.
The duo will follow in the footsteps of Aron Gunnarsson, who represented Iceland at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, with Gary Medel and Kim Bo-kyung featuring in 2014 for Chile and South Korea, respectively.
And the attacking pair are the first Bluebirds to be named in a World Cup squad by Wales since 1958, when Derrick Sullivan, Ron Hewitt, Ken Jones, Graham Vearncombe and Colin Baker were selected by Jimmy Murphy.
Wales kick off their 2022 World Cup campaign against the United States of America on November 21st, before taking on their other opponents in Group B, Iran and England.
