Erol post-Southampton | Our guys were fighting until the end
Erol Bulut spoke to the press following our dramatic 2-1 victory at home to Southampton.
The Bluebirds claimed all three points courtesy of a late Cian Ashford strike.
“The players played with freedom,” Erol began. “I said to my team before they went out that today I only wanted positive thinking, to play with freedom and I think they did. They did a good job today.
“We were good, we were getting better and better. Our guys were fighting until the end. It’s normal that the opponent had their chances, as we played a bit more open than usual.
“Of course the result could have been different, but we had enough chances in the second half to win the game.”
Academy product Cian Ashford scored City’s winner on his full debut in the 96th minute of the affair.
On Cian, Erol said: “He will never forget this moment. He’s doing really well in training sessions, his ninety minutes today was great; I think he did a really good job.
“I think what he has shown today and also in the previous two games is his quality.
“I was happy for him, he has worked in the last weeks to get this opportunity from the start, but we also should not forget how Giles gave the ball to him and supported him.”
With Raheem Conte and Luey Giles also involved for their City debuts, the victory over the Saints earmarked another proud day for the Cardiff City Academy.
The gaffer added: “I think this is a good message to give to the U21 players, that we always have an eye on bringing players up.
“I said to them: don’t be nervous, they can play with freedom, without any pressure. Every negative thing is on me and every positive thing was on them. I think this relaxed them a little bit.
“The young players used their chance well today, and I hope they can build on it in the future."
