Erol post-Plymouth Argyle | We must play with more confidence

Interviews
Erol Bulut spoke to the press after our 2-2 draw against Plymouth Argyle on Boxing Day.

“We managed the game better in the first half and played well,” Erol began. “In the second half, after the substitutions, we were a little too defensive. We have to press and win the ball back better, and because we didn’t do that, we made small mistakes, then our confidence dropped from the first half. Plymouth scored the second goal and after that, we lost a bit of confidence.

“We can’t allow the opponent to shoot twice in a row without stopping them. We saved the first shot, but then we have three or four players who weren’t alert, this cannot happen. We have to be more focused and aggressive in that area.

"We could’ve won the game at the end, but it was a 50/50 game, and both sides created the same number of chances. We have to live with the point, and we have to prepare and recover well to be ready for the next game on the 29th.”

Karlan Grant found the net for the second consecutive game with a great strike from the edge of the area.

Erol continued: “Today was much better from our attackers. Football is mostly about confidence, and if you have it, you believe in yourself and you believe in your teammates, and sometimes you have to gain confidence by passing the ball five or six metres.

"You have to continue to get your confidence back and then you can try and get through defences.”

Erol concluded by giving an update on the injured players in the squad.

Aaron Ramsey hasn’t started training with us yet, but Callum O’Dowda has now started back with us. I hope he will be back playing quick, maybe not next week but the week after, he can be playing. Ramsey, not yet.

Kion [Etete] had a hamstring problem from previous games, so I didn’t want to push him today and worsen his injury.”
