Cardiff City FC Community Foundation has kicked off the year with a series of engaging football tournaments and educational initiatives, offering opportunities for young people across Cardiff to showcase their talents and develop their skills in a competitive environment.
Primary Education: A Day of Football Fun
On 29th January, Cardiff City FC Community Foundation hosted the local stage of the Utilita EFL Kids Cup, with primary schools from across the region coming together for an exciting day of competition.
The tournament gave pupils the chance to showcase their skills, teamwork and sportsmanship as they battled for a place in the next stage of this national competition.
Cwmlai Primary School came out on top and will now represent Cardiff City FC at the regional stage. Congratulations to them and a huge thank you goes to all the schools, teachers, pupils and volunteers who made the day a success.
Secondary Education: Girls take on Regional Tournament
The excitement continued at secondary school level as Llanishen High School’s girls’ football team advanced to the regional stage of the Utilita EFL Girls Cup in Bristol last week. Although the team didn’t progress further, they gained invaluable experience facing off against other community clubs, proudly wearing their Cardiff City FC kits.
Each match was a testament to the spirit of respect, teamwork and resilience, with pupils showcasing the core values of the competition. The Utilita EFL Kids and Girls Cup provides young players with the chance to experience competitive football in a supportive and structured environment, with the ultimate goal of playing at Wembley Stadium ahead of the EFL Play-Off Finals.
Since 2019, over 2,297 children have participated in the EFL football competition through Cardiff City FC Community Foundation, underlining the Foundation’s commitment to nurturing young football talent.
Further Education: Futsal Festival & Opportunities for Aspiring Athletes
Cardiff City FC Community Foundation’s Further Education programme travelled to England with the Women’s Team participating in a Girls Futsal Festival at Hayworth College.
Futsal, a small-sided version of football, focuses on technical skills and quick decision-making under pressure - ideal for players looking to refine their abilities.
With three modern Futsal courts, students at Cardiff City FC’s Further Education programme represent the club in the Association of Colleges Futsal League, competing weekly against teams from Premier League and English Football League clubs. The programme combines practical learning with theoretical study, providing a well-rounded education for aspiring footballers.
Want to Join? Open Evening for 16-19-Year-Olds
For those interested in competing in Futsal while they learn, Cardiff City FC Community Foundation is hosting an Open Evening on Thursday 20th February 2025 at Cardiff City House of Sport.
The event will showcase the NCFE and BTEC Sport courses on offer, giving prospective students a chance to learn more about how they can combine their passion for football with academic and career development.
