City in Focus | Kelly relishing time with Bluebirds
In the summer, the Bluebirds’ midfield was bolstered with the signing of Kelly Adams.
Kelly joined from Swansea City Women, boasting vast experience in the Adran Premier and the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
Reflecting on her move to City, Kelly said: “I thought I was ready to retire. However, after a lot of thought, I knew I had plenty of fight left in me to continue playing in this league.
“I wanted to join Cardiff City because they have always been such a strong and organised team. I knew when joining that there was an already established squad and I wanted to be a part of it. I am so grateful to be amongst such talented players.”
Despite joining a new squad, there were some familiar faces for Kelly, having already played with the likes of Rhianne Oakley, Emma Beynon, Tija Richardson, Ffion Price and Lisa Owen during her stellar career.
Kelly continued: “Having played with Rhi, Emma and Tija, at club level before joining, along with Ffion and Lisa in university, it made the move a little easier.
“It definitely has helped knowing some of the girls previously. I’ve played against a lot of them for years so I felt like I already knew them in a way.
“All the girls and staff at Cardiff City have been so welcoming and have made me feel right at home. I feel I have settled in really well here.
“I’ve been very impressed with the standards at the Club, along with the facilities. The support from the Club has been great, from selling the Women’s shirts in the club shops to the stadium games.
“They are such brilliant experiences and we are thankful for the opportunities to play there. Training three times a week has been brilliant as well. It gives us the time to work on all aspects of our game in training. You can see what we work on in training come to life in games on a Sunday.”
The midfielder has played her part in a successful start to the campaign, with the Bluebirds currently sitting top of the Adran Premier table.
City have been undefeated in the opening eight league matches, with six fixtures left to play in Phase One of the campaign.
“We’ve had a great start to the season,” Kelly added. “However, we need to stay focused and take one game at a time.
“We don’t have a choice other than to continue with the standards we have set for ourselves. The league has grown and the standards have improved so much over the years. Especially this season, it is so competitive and every game is a challenge.
“The mood around training at the minute is to continue with the hard work we’ve put in. We all want to continue with the success we’ve earned already.
“It always gives us a lift and keeps us motivated when we have such fantastic support every week. We’re really grateful for everyone who comes to watch us and we hope that can continue to grow.”
