The Bluebirds’ positive start to the Adran Premier season has also included some great news on the training pitch, with the return of Danielle Green.

The City wing-back, who has been a fantastic servant to the Club, has spent time away from football this calendar year and gave birth to her son Ezra in July.

Just 36 days later, she came on as a substitute in a pre-season victory over Limerick WWSL to mark her return.

Her last Adran Premier appearance was on November 5th, 2023, which was a 1-0 win away at Swansea City. Having returned to training, Greeny now has her sights set on getting back to competitive action.

“It felt really good to be back with the girls. I’ve loved being a part of it all again with them,” she began. “Everyone has been really supportive in me returning to playing. The girls and the staff have all helped me, both on and off the pitch, to make sure that I come back in the best possible condition.

“It’s been really demanding on my body since I’ve come back to training, much harder than I thought it would be. The standard and intensity of training has always been very high, which has played a big part in our success over the years. It has been a challenge to come back and gradually try to get back to those levels and get back to full fitness, but it is a challenge that I’m really enjoying. Our squad is full of quality players and it has been great to be back training with them all.”

In the 2023/24 campaign, City completed a domestic treble, winning the Adran Premier, the Bute Energy Welsh Cup and the Adran Trophy. On our way to clinching three trophies, Green, who was named City’s Player of the Season in the campaign prior, was eager to offer her support and remains a key part of the side for this season.

She added: “I think my experience of playing in this league can help the young players that we have to understand how much more physical opponents are going to be. I’ll always encourage them all to be at their full potential. We have produced a lot of talented young players at the Club over the years and the experienced players that we have had in the group have always looked to help them as much as possible.

“While I’m getting back to full fitness, I’ll still look to continue that help and support the girls as much as I can. The most important thing is that we keep winning games and everyone can contribute towards that. I can’t wait to get back playing and competing. I feel like it has been ages, but I’m really excited to get back playing in a Cardiff City shirt.”
