City Flashback - 2013 | Jordon Mutch strikes in injury time vs. Fulham

History
As the Bluebirds welcome Fulham to Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday (26/02), we take a look back at a memorable goal against the Cottagers in 2013.

Having earned promotion to the Premier League as Champions in the previous season, the Bluebirds began the campaign with a fantastic home victory over Manchester City, draws to Everton and Hull City, along with early losses to West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur.

City travelled to Craven Cottage to play in front of a crowd of 23,020, with a strong away following from the Bluebirds, who weren’t to be disappointed by the result.

Summer recruit Steven Caulker headed home for his first goal for the Bluebirds, before Fulham playmaker Bryan Ruiz levelled for the hosts.

With chances for both sides, it took a memorable goal to settle the contest, coming in the form of a moment of magic from Jordon Mutch.

The attacking midfielder brought down David Marshall’s ball forward, before cutting inside and curling brilliantly into the top corner, giving the Bluebirds a dramatic 2-1 victory in added time, the club’s first away in the top-flight in 52 years - which was, incidentally, another win at Craven Cottage!

Having played a part in the promotion-winning season the previous year, starting the final eight league fixtures as City secured top spot, Mutch made an impression at CCS before moving on to Queens Park Rangers in 2014.

City would go on to enjoy more memorable moments throughout the 2013/2014 campaign, including Caulker’s match-winning header against Swansea City and Kim Bo-Kyung’s last-minute equaliser against Manchester United.

The reverse fixture against the Cottagers was another highlight in the top-flight, as Caulker netted twice, along with Sascha Riether’s own-goal securing all three points.

Despite some fine results against the likes of Manchester City and fantastic support from the Bluebirds faithful throughout the season, it wasn’t quite enough to stay in the Premier League, as the club were relegated to the Championship.

With the campaign ending in disappointment for City, Mutch’s fantastic last-minute winner at Craven Cottage was a real highlight.
