Chambers pre-West Bromwich Albion | Believing in our quality

Calum Chambers
Calum Chambers spoke to the press ahead of our Sky Bet Championship clash with West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon.

City head into the contest on the back of a 1-1 draw against Oxford United on Easter Monday.

“I thought the game against Oxford we put in a really positive performance," Calum began. "We were solid as a team and controlled a lot of the game. We didn’t really give them any chances and they scored one goal from two shots, one on target and one was a 35-yard screamer. We need to look at ourselves and we know that the last two games are must-wins, that’s all we’re focusing on.

“The feeling around the place is that we know what we need to do and what is required. All our focus is on the next game, it’s a must-win, we need to get the three points so that’s what everyone’s main focusing is on doing.

“I’ve got every belief in this team and this squad. The whole season, I’ve been saying the same thing. It’s unfortunate we’re in the situation we’re in, but it’s down to us now to put it right and go out to win the remaining two games we’ve got, that’s all we can do.”

Saturday will mark the second game of Aaron Ramsey's time in charge, a former Arsenal teammate of Chambers.

Calum continued: “He’s been class. He knows very clearly what he wants from us. His messages, the amount of detail he got into us before the game in such little time and already what we’ve done this week.

“It’s been great, the respect for him around the players, the Club and everything, everyone knows what an amazing guy he is. We are really want to do it for him as well.

“You can’t point your finger at one thing this season, it’s a collective. There are things that haven’t gone right for us. There’s not one thing you can say it’s down to, it’s a collective of things. Everyone needs to take accountability for that. We’re all fully aware of where we are. We’re just doing everything we can to get it right.

“What we feel is that we know we need to win on Saturday to give ourselves a chance on the last day and that is our only focus at this moment in time.”

The City defender concluded by praising the support of our fans in the clash with the U's last time out.

“The game at the weekend, they were amazing," Calum added. "They came out in full support in the stadium during the game and I really do feel that helps. You really feel it on the pitch and we really felt it in the game. For us, having that there and that support and the stadium as full as we can get it, it’s amazing. That’s all we can ask for in our home games and it goes a long way.

“This is a different situation at a different club. It’s a different feeling to the battles I’ve had previously. The group has stuck together so well, it feels like a family there. At times where it gets tough, it’s been nice to be involved in the group, we have stuck together and we feel that we’re in this together.”
