Ahead of this weekend’s South Wales derby at Cardiff City Stadium, Calum Chambers spoke to the press.
Addressing the fixture at hand, Calum shared his thoughts on approaching a derby at home for the first time as a Bluebird.
“Playing at home is lovely, and especially in a derby,” he began. “It’s got that extra special feel to it, so I’m very much looking forward to it.
“For everyone at the Club - the fans and players - it’s always a game and a fixture that we look out for. Everyone is properly excited for it. In the build-up as well, it starts when you look for it when the fixtures come out.
“It’s a game that you want to win, and you do whatever it takes to win that game. We want to go into Saturday as prepared as possible and go in willing to do whatever we can to get a win.”
Impressing consistently in a new position as defensive midfielder in recent weeks, Calum reflected on the change, discussing his experiences from recent fixtures.
“I’ve been loving it; it’s always been a position I felt I can play in throughout my career,” said Chambers. “I had the opportunity to do it at Fulham, which is where I first had the opportunity and had a good run at it, and I loved that season.
“I think that the position suits me and what I can bring to the game as well, so it’s definitely something that I’m really enjoying, and I’m taking it game by game."
With City in a good run of recent form, Calum now sets his sights on the weekend, with a squad united in their shared goal.
“I look at our last four games and we’ve had a tough run. We’ve got six points from those four games, so we’re on a good track and building a bit of momentum. We’re in a good way and want to keep working and building on that to get the results.
“Everyone wants the same thing and is pushing in the right direction, there is a good feel about the place, and I’m hoping for a strong second half to the season.
“As I said, we’ve had a tough run of matches, but to stay strong and put in the performances we have been doing is good.”
