Calum Chambers

Chambers pre-Swansea City | A great game to be involved in

Interviews
Calum Chambers spoke to the press ahead of Sunday's South Wales derby.

Having joined the Bluebirds in the summer following his departure from Aston Villa, the City centre-back began by reflecting on his time at the Club so far.

“I’m loving it, I feel really settled," Calum said. "Everyone has been great at the Club: the manager, the players, all the staff, it’s been a really nice welcome.

“I wanted to go somewhere that I can create memories at a club that I can be proud of, look back on and be a part of something. The timing was right for me with Cardiff City. We were both going in the same direction with the conversations I had with the Club and that was the main thing that drew me to this. It’s exciting and I’m looking forward to it.

“One of the strong talking points between me and the Club was that we wanted to push forward. I wanted to be part of the project and the ambition that the Club has, I wanted to be involved in that."

Developing an adapted style of play this term, Calum continued by looking back at the campaign so far.

He continued: “We spoke about the way that we wanted to play a team and it has been positive. The first few results, it’s not the start we wanted, but what we’re trying to create and the style we want to implement, there’s been a lot of that within those games.

"It’s important to take the positives from those games, what we’ve been working on, and I think we’ve brought that into both Sunderland and Burnley.

“It’s small margins that we need to fall for us. We need to keep trusting in what we’re doing and I think it will come."

City's no.12 has experienced derbies during his career, notably featuring in the North London derby for Arsenal against Tottenham Hotspur.

Ahead of his first South Wales derby on Sunday, Calum concluded: “Derby games, they’re must win games, they’re massive and you always want to win the game. There’s a different feel about a derby game wherever you are. We’ve prepared for that this week and what better time for us to play them. We’ve had two results that have gone against us, so I can’t wait to go and play there and try and get a win. It would be amazing for us and the fans.

“People have told me a lot of things about this game when I first moved here and especially this week. It sounds like a great game to be involved in. I love these kind of games, for the fans and for us. We’ve got an opportunity to do something special for the Club in these games and it’s up to us to take that.

“It’s a team effort, it always is and it will take everyone to be at 100% on the day. You’ve got to keep cool heads. We’re all just really excited for the game."
