Cédric Kipré joins the Bluebirds on loan
Cardiff City FC are pleased to welcome central defender Cédric Kipré to the Club on a season-long loan from West Bromwich Albion, subject to clearance.
Our twelfth summer signing began his career in the academy of Paris Saint-Germain, before moving to Leicester City in 2014. The 25-year-old went on to make his professional debut for Motherwell in July 2017.
Following a promising spell in Scotland, Cédric gained his first taste of Championship action with Wigan Athletic in 2018, enjoying two impressive seasons at the DW Stadium.
Cédric’s fine form for the Latics saw him earn a move to the Baggies, recently promoted to the Premier League at the time.
The centre-half has made 19 appearances for Albion to date, and re-unites with his former teammate Romaine Sawyers in South Wales.
With permission from his parent club, Cedric trained with his new teammates for the very first time earlier today, before putting pen to paper.
Speaking after signing his loan agreement, he said: "I’m really happy to be here. The manager showed a real interest in me, and he showed that he wanted to have me on board.
“I’d describe myself as a ball-playing centre half; aggressive on the ball and against opponents. I like to defend 1v1, as well.
“Hopefully I can play as many games as possible, stay injury free and try to help the team to achieve their goals.”
Steve Morison added: “I want to see competition across the board, and see players having to push each other. That’s what Cédric brings, and I’m really pleased to have him in the building.
“He’s got really good experience, he’s played loads of games in the Championship, he’s at a great age and he’s a really good character.
“I told him what we are all about, and what we’re trying to do. He’s another one who wanted to come here and be a part of it, which is a really good coup for us.”
