Bowler pre-PNE | We're hungry to bounce back
Josh Bowler spoke to the press ahead of the Bluebirds’ return to Sky Bet Championship action against Preston North End on Saturday afternoon.
The City winger began by reflecting on the matches prior to the international break: “The game against Norwich was a tough one to take. A two-week break after that is a tough one, because you want a game straight away on the Tuesday to put it right. But, it’s also made us hungrier and we’re all ready to put it right on Saturday.
“It’s never easy going to Preston. It’s a tough place to go and they play well there. Every place in the Championship is tough, but we’ve gone to a lot of places and got good results. That’s what we’ll be trying to do again."
The Bluebirds have recorded 24 points from the opening 16 matches of the league campaign, currently sitting ninth in the table.
“You would take it, but you also look at some of the games where we’ve dropped points, like Ipswich, Leeds, Leicester and Norwich, we could have got more,” Josh continued. “We’ll definitely take the positives of where we are, but we can definitely look forward and set our sights on more than that.
“You play so many games, especially in this Christmas period. You’re playing nine games in 30 days, so there are going to be teams that go on small runs, go on small losing streaks. That’s just the league, but we’ve got to make sure, in ourselves, that we go on those winning runs and if we’re maybe having a poor game, we at least take a draw and maybe even nick it like we did at Sunderland.
“These are the types of games in the Championship that we’ve got to win or you’ve got to at least get a point and that’s how you stay on these unbeaten runs, because a lot of teams can do that.”
City have a busy period of fixtures coming up, with West Bromwich Albion travelling to South Wales on Tuesday evening, following the Bluebirds’ clash at Preston.
Josh concluded: “We’ve all got confidence in the training ground. We have a good squad, a good manager and a good coaching staff, so everything is there.
“It’s just about putting in performances consistently. We didn’t do that against Norwich, but we’ll be looking to put that right at Preston.”
