City Women bowed out of the Adran Trophy on Sunday afternoon, falling to a 1-0 defeat to The New Saints.

Olivia Buckland's first half goal was enough to secure victory for the hosts.

The Bluebirds made a bright start and looked dangerous going forward in the opening exchanges, but were reduced to 10 players in the 12th minute, as wing-back Mikayla Cook was shown a straight red card.

The hosts capitalised and opened the scoring with 27 minutes on the clock, as the ball was played across to Buckland, who tapped into an empty net.

In the second period, despite playing with 10, City continued to pose a danger and looked to find an equaliser, coming closest through Molly Kehoe, who fired just wide of the post.

Despite the Bluebirds' best efforts to find a leveller, the hosts progressed into the next round.

REACTION | IAIN DARBYSHIRE

After the full-time whistle, head coach Iain Darbyshire said: "I'm so proud of the players. To play around 75 minutes with ten players with the attitude and application that they showed, I can't be more proud of them. They ran so hard and stuck together, but we just couldn't quite find a goal to take it through to penalties.

"To play like that with ten players shows how good we can be and there are a lot of positives to take. We regrouped and it's something we can learn from. We got into a good shape and still caused them problems. It shows how good our squad is and how much they care.

"We were playing against difficult opposition today. Like I said before the game, they have had a good season and have got some impressive results. Credit to them, but for us, it's about bouncing back now."
