Cardiff City Women were defeated by Swansea City at Llandarcy Academy of Sport on Sunday afternoon.
Head coach Iain Darbyshire made five changes to the side that secured the Adran Premier title in midweek, with Lisa Owen, Megan Bowen, Kelly Adams, Kerry Walklett and Olivia Basham coming into the starting XI.
The hosts had early chances through Emily Thomas, who had three efforts at goal in quick succession, but fired wide of the post with each. After Hosford was felled in the area, the Swans captain stepped up to give her side the lead in the 24th minute.
City went close to equalising just before the break, as Basham was alert to pounce on a mistake from defender Jess Williams, before firing just wide of the post, ensuring the Swans had the lead at the interval.
At the start of the second period, the hosts went close to doubling their lead, as Hosford’s effort struck the woodwork. The Bluebirds reacted well and forced a chance, as Owen found space on the right and struck at goal, forcing Chelsea Herbert to save. From the rebound, Molly Kehoe fired at goal, only for Ellie Lake to clear off the line.
On the hour mark, the Swans doubled their lead, as Robyn Pinder found Thomas, who struck into the bottom corner. Immediately looking to halve the deficit, Basham almost turned home from close-range, before midfielder Adams had a dangerous effort saved by Herbert.
Despite City's efforts to get back into the contest, the hosts took all three points. The Bluebirds’ last league game of the season is against Wrexham at Cardiff City Stadium next Sunday, 5.10pm, where City will lift the Adran Premier trophy.
