Academy | Caleb Hughes signs first professional contract

Midfielder Caleb Hughes has signed his first professional contract with the Bluebirds.

On his 17th birthday earlier this week, Hughes put pen-to-paper on a new agreement with Cardiff City that will run until June 31st, 2022.

Speaking to cardiffcityfc.co.uk, Caleb said: “It’s a great feeling to sign my first professional contract.

“Signing the contract is just the start though. Now it’s about working even harder, continuing to develop and fulfilling my potential and ultimately breaking into the first team.”

Academy Manager James McCarthy added: “Caleb is a hard working, energetic centre midfielder with a good range of passing and good quality from set pieces – as was demonstrated with his recent goal against Watford.”

James continued: “He has an excellent work ethic and constantly seeks to better himself even when he is away from the Academy. He has had a very successful couple of seasons with us which have culminated in the offer of his scholarship and this professional contract on his 17th birthday. 

“He is aware that this contract is another opportunity for him showcase his talent and hopefully realise his dream of playing in our first team.”
