2023/24 UEFA Women's Champions League | Qualifying Draw Information

Women's UEFA Champions League Trophy

Cardiff City Women will learn their opponents for their UEFA Champions League Qualifying campaign on Friday, 30th June, with the draw taking place in Nyon, Switzerland at 12pm (BST).

The Bluebirds earned a spot in European competition after winning the Adran Premier for a second time in the Club’s history.

Iain Darbyshire’s side achieved an unbeaten league campaign, lifting the title at Cardiff City Stadium after a 3-1 victory over Swansea City Ladies.

With attention now turning to the UEFA Champions League qualifiers, the top-placed sides from the associations ranked between 8 and 50 in the UEFA coefficient all compete in the first qualifying round.

Wales are currently ranked 40th in the coefficient, which means the Bluebirds will contest in the first qualifying round.

The qualifiers consist of 11 mini tournaments, with some groups including four teams and others including three.

With a semi-final, a third-place Play-Off and a final taking place, victory in the latter would lead to a two-legged tie in the second qualifying round, where the sides compete for a place in the group stages.

The first round qualifying round matches will take place between 6th-9th September 2023.

Iain Darbyshire addresses his squad...

Ahead of the draw, boss Darbyshire commented: “We’re really excited to find out our opponents for the Champions League. The girls worked so hard last season to win the Adran Premier title and finish the league season unbeaten, so they’ve earned the right to go and compete in Europe.

“We want to make an impression and show what we’re about. Preparation is already underway and we’ll be working as hard as we can to make sure we represent the Club and Welsh domestic football as best we can.”

Captain Siobhan Walsh, who played an integral role in the Bluebirds’ qualification for European competition, added: “We are eagerly waiting to find out who we will be facing. I’m sure all the girls will have their eyes on the draw on the 30th of June and can’t wait to play later on in the year.

“We have all been working hard already during pre season to ensure we give it our best and are ready for the challenge ahead.”
