U23 Match Preview: Cardiff City vs. Crystal Palace

Cardiff City’s U23 side host Crystal Palace for their tenth Professional Development League Two game of the season on Monday, 29th October 2018 – 1pm kick-off.

Know Your Opponent

Crystal Palace U23s are currently managed by a former Club stalwart and defender, Richard Shaw. The 50 year old made 207 league appearances for the Eagles between 1986 and 1995.

The London-based side enjoyed a very successful 2017/18 campaign under Shaw’s management. His team won 19 of their 29 league games; finishing top of the table with an impressive 60 points.

This season, the Eagles are currently fourth in the league with four wins in nine league outings. However, their last encounter saw an experienced Palace side fall to a 1-0 home defeat against Coventry City on Monday, 22nd October 2018. Former Blackburn Rovers defender Scott Dann featured alongside fellow first-team player Pape Souaré in that match.

Last Time Out

An injury-hit City U23 side were defeated on the road in their most recent clash against the Eagles, on Tuesday 13th March 2018.

The young Bluebirds held out for large periods of the game, before the experienced Palace side netted three goals after the hour mark at Selhurst Park, making the final score 4-0.

Pre-Match Quotes

U23 Head Coach Jarred Harvey gave his verdict ahead of Monday's clash with Palace.

“It’s definitely going to be a tough game against Crystal Palace," he said. "They’re a strong side with some brilliant individual players.

“The game will be a good test for us and the players are looking forward to the challenge.”

Midfielder Jacob Evans, who scored in his most recent outing, also shared his thoughts ahead of the match.

“We’re all looking forward to the game," added Jacob. "Hopefully we can build on our win in our last game. It would be nice to get a string of results together so that we can work our way up the league.”
