Cardiff City U23 Head Coach, Jarred Harvey gave his reaction following a 2-0 victory against Watford at Cardiff City Stadium, on Monday, 19th November 2018.
“I’m pleased with the result,” began Harvey. “We deserved the win even if our performance wasn’t as good as it has been in recent weeks. I think we could’ve scored five or six goals if we had taken more chances. But it was great to get the win at the stadium.
“We had some First Team players involved. It was great to mix them in with the current players in the squad. They aspire to reach their level. To be able to play with the likes of Gary Madine, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Loïc Damour and Brian Murphy is massive for the lads. To play alongside them, and at the stadium, is inspiring for them.
“We’ve improved as the season has progressed. Individual players within our team have improved as well and that’s the main thing. It’s not all about the results at this level. It’s mainly about getting the players experience and giving them a better chance to feature for the First Team.
“Our players are having to play in a number of different positions in which they’ve learned to adapt to as the season goes on. So it’s been good for them and I’m happy about that.”
Full-back Daniel Martin also shared his thoughts following the victory on a cold Monday night.
“I’m delighted with the result and performance,” began Martin. “It was a close start but we improved as the game progressed, especially in the second half. We started to play more towards our game plan. We got more chances and kept the ball better and we constantly put them under a lot of pressure.
“The result reflected on our recent performances. We’ve played well in the matches leading up to this one. It was great to get the clean sheet and extend our lead; as well as maintaining it.
“Overall I think we dominated the game. The first ten minutes didn’t have the spark we wanted but we improved. I thought we were the better team throughout.”
