THE OPPOSITION
Huddersfield Town welcome the Bluebirds to Yorkshire having already secured their place in the 2017 Championship Play-Offs. David Wagner’s men currently sit in 5th position.
Despite their lofty position, Sunday’s hosts have been in mixed form of late, only winning one of their last four Championship games. This sequence included a 4-1 defeat at home to Play-Off rivals Fulham, but the Terriers bounced back in their next game with a 1-0 victory away at Wolves.
Last time out, Wagner made ten changes to his lineup when the team travelled to Birmingham City. Despite the first half dismissal of Birmingham’s Che Adams, the Blues ran out 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Jonathan Grounds and Craig Gardner.
The Terriers have two strikers in double figures for the season in Elias Kachunga and Nahki Wells. Former Bradford forward Wells has ten strikes to his name whilst Kachunga is the Terriers top scorer with 13 goals.
CLUB CONNECTIONS
Cardiff City captain Sean Morrison joined Huddersfield on loan from Reading in the 2011/12 campaign. The centre back played an important part in the promotion from League One that season, scoring his penalty in their Play-Off final shootout victory.
City boss Neil Warnock took charge of Huddersfield in 1993 and led them to the 1994 Football League Trophy Final as well as promotion from the Second Division through the Play-Offs in 1995.
Mark Hudson arrived in South Wales in 2009 and made nearly 150 appearances for the club. Hudson skippered the side to the 2012/13 Championship title before joining the Terriers in 2014. The defender was soon made captain and he has had a big role this season as the Terriers chase promotion.
Other current City players to have previously played for the Terriers include Anthony Pilkington and Lee Peltier.
MEMORABLE MEETING
The Bluebirds hosted Huddersfield earlier in the season on 19th November 2016 and the game turned into a cracker at Cardiff City Stadium.
The Terriers arrived in South Wales occupying third place in the Championship table, but they were blown away by a stellar performance from Neil Warnock’s men.
Sean Morrison headed home a corner to open the scoring before Junior Hoilett turned in a rebound minutes later to double City’s advantage. Tommy Smith pulled one back for the visitors but Rickie Lambert restored City's two goal advantage just after the half-hour mark.
Midfielder Phillip Billing scored a spectacular volley in the second half to make it 3-2 but the Bluebirds comfortably held on to clinch three points and their second consecutive 3-2 win over Huddersfield.
