Richard Archer’s ‘Cardiff Legend’ award celebrates the work of the Cardiff City FC Foundation…
The toast of Cardiff’s lifestyle businesses were celebrated last night at the inaugural Cardiff Lifestyle Awards shown live on Made in Cardiff.Following thousands of public votes, businesses from across the region competed in ten different lifestyle categories. The winners of each award were declared by hosts, Alex Richard and Rhydian Bowen Phillips, with a special ‘Cardiff Legend’ award presented to Head of Inclusion at the Cardiff City FC Foundation, Richard Archer.
Richard’s role at the Foundation is to oversee all delivery and provision within the Inclusion department. The main aims of the department are to increase inclusion across Cardiff and South Wales, with particular focus on disability, women and girls in sports, and a wide range of minority groups. In doing so, the Foundation strive to educate young people to facilitate their path into the world of employment.
Richard has been credited by many as having helped to turn a number of young people's lives around in order for them to enjoy positive futures in life and employment.
“It was an honour to receive the award”, Richard humbly told cardiffcityfc.co.uk following the ceremony.
“But I was very conscious of the fact that the work that we do here at the Foundation is by no means an individual feat. It is an absolute team effort here and everyone works tremendously hard to make a difference in the community and create a social impact.
“The Foundation is in the business of creating legends – from our soccer schools, to our disability programmes, adult education courses and with all participants, learners and staff. They are the real legends.”
Daniel Glyn, Station Manager for Made in Cardiff commented on the success of the inaugural ceremony at Portland House, saying: “What a brilliant night celebrating such an amazing variety of businesses and people from across our great city. The love and support for our local businesses was amazing and we were delighted to make it as the number one Twitter trend!
"It was an absolute pleasure to present these awards, not only to the people in the room, but to broadcast the show to our audience at home. A huge congratulations to all our shortlisters and winners.”
