INTERNATIONAL BLUEBIRDS | EASTER 2016

Club News

Following Saturday’s away draw against Reading, the Bluebirds are next in action on 2nd April when we face fifth-place Derby County.

It’s set to be a big game in the battle for a top six finish at Cardiff City Stadium and remember, we’re giving away TWO FREE TICKETS  to all those who purchase (or have purchased) a 2016/17 Season Ticket!

While there are ten days to go until the Derby match, a number of Bluebirds are in action for their national sides over the next few days, from Cardiff City Stadium to much further afield…

WALES

Cardiff City Stadium plays host to Wales’ international friendly against Northern Ireland on Thursday evening, as both sides prepare for this summer’s UEFA Euro 2016 tournament in France.

Chris Coleman’s men then travel to take on Ukraine at the NSK Olimpiyskiy Stadium on Monday 28th, with City loanee Tom Lawrence included in the squad for both matches.
REPUBLIC OF IRELAND

Another of City’s star attacking players this campaign, Anthony Pilkington, has been selected in Republic of Ireland’s squad for their two friendly matches at the Aviva Stadium.

Martin O’Neill’s men, who have also qualified for Euro 2016, take on Switzerland on Friday and Slovakia on Tuesday, with both matches kicking off at 7:45pm in Dublin.
ICELAND

Having secured the historic achievement of qualifying for their first ever major finals, led by their skipper Aron Gunnarsson, Iceland have set up two away friendlies to Denmark and Greece in preparation.

Gunnar’s men will compete in Group F with Portugal, Austria and Hungary this summer, and will be hoping that their two friendlies against European opposition stand them in good stead for France.

GABON

Bruno Manga’s Gabon face two international fixtures against Sierra Leone on Friday and Tuesday, taking them on at home in Franceville, before travelling to Freetown.

Gabon line up alongside Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast and Sudan in Group I of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualification. However, Gabon’s matches count as friendlies only, as they qualify automatically as hosts of the competition.

U21s & U19s

Finally, Cardiff City DVPs Tommy O’Sullivan, Tom James, Theo Wharton and Marco Weymans are all in European action over the next few days.

Weymans is in the Belgium U19 squad for their UEFA U19 Championship fixtures in Croatia. They defeated Scotland 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon, and are set to face Bulgaria and Croatia next.

Meanwhile, O’Sullivan, James and Wharton have all been selected for Wales U21s two fixtures against Bulgaria and Romania, both away from home.

We’d like to wish all of our international Bluebirds the very best of luck in the respective fixtures!
