EURO 2016 | GUNNAR & ICELAND REACH QUARTERS
Club News
28th June
It was another momentous day for the Country of Iceland, and Cardiff City's Aron Gunnarsson on June 27th, as Strákarnir okkar came from behind to knock England out of UEFA EURO 2016.
Wayne Rooney's penalty kick gave England an early advantage in Nice, but their lead lasted a little under two minutes as a trademark throw from the Bluebirds midfielder caused havoc in the Three Lions penalty area. Gunnarsson's bullet throw eventually slotted in by Ragnar Sigurdsson at close range to level the match.
The evening got even better for Iceland on 18 minutes as Kolbeinn Sigthorsson's shot slipped through the hands of Joe Hart. Despite their best efforts, England failed to breakthrough the strong KSI resistance, led valiantly by captain Gunnarsson - with Iceland recording a historic victory to set up a Quarter Final clash with France in Saint-Denis on Sunday evening.
Congratulations Gunnar on another wonderful achievement, and good luck on Sunday!
