GUNNAR: FESTIVE FOCUS FOR POINTS

City's talismanic no.17 speaks ahead of Boxing Day trip...

Aron Gunnarsson is looking ahead to Boxing Day’s clash at Brentford – and he cites disappointment at home to Barnsley last time out as having lit a flame amongst the Bluebirds’ ranks.

The Iceland skipper, who’s been instrumental in the City midfield this season, looked ahead to the trip to Griffin Park in an interview that you can watch in full, this evening, on Cardiff City Player HD’s ‘In The City’ show.

“Coming into the dressing room and taking nothing from the game was disappointing,” Aron began. “You could see it in the lads’ faces that they were devastated.

“But it is what it is, we have to keep going. The Championship is a ruthless league and games come around quickly. We have to get on with things and try not to dwell for too long.”

After travelling to Griffin Park on Monday, Warnock’s Bluebirds make the trip to Amex Stadium to take on Chris Hughton’s high-flying Brighton & Hove Albion.

“We’ve got two difficult games coming up against Brentford and Brighton,” Gunnar continued. “Hopefully we can grind out some points away from home because it’s a tough league, we know that. But it’s about getting the points on the board.”

The Bluebirds have enjoyed some prosperous trips to the Bees’ West London home in recent years – winning 2-1 with nine men during the 2014/15 season in a highlights package you can watch below.

But it’s the penultimate game of 2016 that is firmly on the minds of the Bluebirds, with three invaluable points up for grabs.

“It’s always tough to go there and play them (Brentford),” Gunnar admitted. “They’re a good side, but like I said, we’re desperate for points and we’ll go there to take something.”
