We are delighted to confirm that former England U21 international Joe Bennett has completed a deal to join Cardiff City FC from Aston Villa, subject to international clearance.
The twenty-six year old Rochdale-born full back began his professional career with Middlesbrough in 2008, making ninety-two appearances for the Teessiders before signing for Premier League Villa in 2012.
During the last two campaigns, Joe has enjoyed promotion-pushing Championship campaigns with Brighton & Hove Albion, AFC Bournemouth and most recently, Sheffield Wednesday.
He becomes the Bluebirds’ sixth signing of the summer transfer window, will wear the number 3 shirt for the 2016/17 season and has signed a three year deal that will keep him at Cardiff City Stadium until the summer of 2019.
Joe will not be eligible to feature in today’s game with Reading due to the EFL registration process.
Speaking of the transfer, Cardiff City Executive Director & CEO Ken Choo said: "We're delighted to have Joe on board and welcome him to Cardiff City Football Club. He's a talented player who will strengthen us.
"I'd like to take this opportunity also to thank Aston Villa FC and Dr. Tony Xia, for his conduct and co-operation in the transfer."
