Cardiff City Football Club was recently named ‘Community Club of the Year’ for Wales and the South West Region at the Football League Awards, 2016.
The Club was also nominated for the national award at this year’s prestigious ceremony, held in Manchester.
This Saturday, the Club’s hosts its third annual Foundation Day – held to celebrate the work of Cardiff City’s charitable arm, Cardiff City Foundation, and to help raise valuable funds for the outstanding Community work that takes places seven days a week.
Speaking in reference to the Club’s Community work and its recognition for best practice, Cardiff City FC Executive Director and CEO, Ken Choo, said: “We’re very proud to have been recognised for this category in particular, and I think great credit should go to all staff here at the Club and within our Foundation for the efforts that they continue to make to improve the lives of others.”
“The fantastic work that Cardiff City Foundation undertakes daily epitomises the values we hold dear as a Football Club. We aim to be a provider of opportunities for all - irrespective of age, gender, ability or social background.
“The Foundation’s work has an impact on so many lives across South Wales and its staff and volunteers are driven by a desire to expand their reach and provision. I’m thrilled that the Club comes together as one to support Foundation Day, as it will on Saturday.
“With the support of our fans, we’re set for another successful Foundation Day in 2016, now in its third year. The funds raised on the day will allow our good work to continue.”
Foundation Director Gavin Hawkey added: “Foundation Day 2016 provides a great platform for us to showcase the diverse range of programmes delivered by the Cardiff City Foundation, such as our literacy project in primary schools and our employability courses for those over the age of fifty-five.
“I would like to thank Cardiff City FC for their continued support of Foundation Day and ongoing commitment to community development."
