RUSSELL: WE RELISH THE BIG MATCHES

As Cardiff City prepare to face Derby County at the iPro Stadium tomorrow afternoon, Russell Slade spoke to the press and media to preview the fixture against the fifth-placed Rams.

With yesterday’s news that Joe Ralls has signed a new contract with the Bluebirds, Russell first explained his delight at securing the young midfielder’s future at Cardiff City Stadium.

“Joe has made great strides and we’re really pleased with the progress he’s made on the pitch,” began the City manager.

“He’s one of our young players who is maturing quickly, he’s always wanted to stay and is enjoying his football here at Cardiff City. I still think there’s so much more to come from Joe because he’s still at a great age and is a fantastic kid.

“We’ve got two real tests now against Derby County and Burnley – but playing against teams that have started the season well can bring out the best in us. The important thing now is to maintain our momentum to continue being right in the hunt for promotion.”
