COREY PRICE MEMORIAL MATCH - 14/06/15

Club News

Cardiff City Football Club would like to announce the staging of the Corey Price Memorial Match on Sunday, 14th June 2015, kick-off: 1.00 pm.

Corey Price represented the Cardiff City Academy over an eight year period from the age of nine years old. As part of the South Wales community, we were deeply saddened to hear of March’s tragic events in which Corey, Rhodri Miller, Alesha O'Connor and Margaret Challis, sadly lost their lives. It is with the deepest respects that we honour each of their memories further with this Memorial Match between members of the close Community.

Academy Operations Manager, Anthony Redwood has been instrumental in arranging this memorial game along with a number of Corey’s family, and shared his thoughts: “I’ve been in regular contact with the families over recent weeks and for a while we’ve been discussing options of some kind of tribute. For us as a Club, that was never in question.

“Corey played a major part in our programme and more so in the lives of others – the staff and his teammates at the Academy. We hope that we can make an annual event of the match and celebrate their memories.  I’ve no doubt the match will be a great day for all concerned, and we’re immensely proud as a Club to be able to play a small part in that.”

Lee Price, father of Corey Price, said: “It’s been overwhelming. Corey spent eight years with Cardiff’s Academy and the Club recently came to me with the idea of a memorial match.

“Corey had an infectious giggle when he got excited and I’m sure he’ll be looking down with a smile on his face.”

Admission for this match at Cardiff City Stadium is free for those who wish to attend. Bucket Collections and Donations will be accepted on the day.

All proceeds from these collections are set to go towards a Corey Price Memorial Bench that will forever remain in place at Ysgol Bro Morgannwg. A second Memorial Bench will also be placed at the Cardiff City Academy Training Ground. Our thanks to the University of South Wales and Steve Savage for their help arranging this fitting tribute. Our gratitude also to Steve Green, who has kindly donated the Memorial Trophy.

Further details of this match will be released upon confirmation.
