MAKING A DIFFERENCE: PL KICKS
Community
29th April
After the recent successes of ‘Foundation Day 2015’ as well as our inaugural ‘Cardiff City Festival of Sport’, we are delighted to share further triumphs led in accordance with the Cardiff City Community Foundation.
‘Premier League Kicks’ is a charity-led initiative started in October 2013 by the Cardiff City Community Foundation following kind support from the Premier League Charitable Fund.
The ‘Kicks’ project offers FREE sports coaching sessions to young people of ages 14-19, providing access to health and constructive exercise. During the first 12 months of the initiative, nearly 700 young people were engaged in the project – and this is only expected to increase each year.
The primary objective of ‘Premier League Kicks’ is to use the positive role models within the Cardiff City Community Foundation to help engage young people in local community areas with known high levels of anti-social behaviour.
The initiative is currently running in sites across South Wales, including Butetown, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Aberdare and more recently Caerphilly. The new ‘Kicks’ centre in Caerphilly, ran in conjunction with the British Transport Police, is already making an instant impact. Local statistics show a 40% reduction in anti-social behaviour for the first three months of 2015.

Regular attendance at the coaching sessions as well as continued development are rewarded with a selection of young people from each venue invited to the esteemed House of Sport facility for a football tournament every ten weeks. There have also been opportunities for young people to represent the Club in both regional and National fixtures, including this South Wales Derby: Bluebirds success at first PL Kicks Derby.
With personal development a key part of the ‘Kicks’ initiative, opportunities to gain qualifications in First Aid and Football Coaching are available to those who attend the centres.
If you would like to get involved with the ‘PL Kicks’ project, sponsorship and coaching opportunities are currently available. Please contact: zac.lyndonjones@cardiffcityfc.org.uk for more details.
