PRE-SEASON: CITY TO HOST VFL WOLFSBURG

Cardiff City Football Club will host German club VFL Wolfsburg on Saturday 2 August 2014 in preparation for the upcoming 2014/15 Sky Bet Championship campaign.

The Cardiff City Stadium pre-season friendly, kick-off at 3pm will provide a tough test as the squad take on last season’s fifth ranked Bundesliga team, nicknamed locally as ‘Die Wölfe’.

Managed by Dieter Hecking, Wolfsburg’s top scorer last term was Croatian international and former Bayern Munich striker Ivica Olić with fourteen goals.

In other quick facts, current Fulham boss and former German international Felix Magath led Wolfsburg to win the Bundesliga in 2009 during his first of two spells in charge. The club were also managed by current Derby boss Steve McCLaren for seven months until February 2011.
