Both sides had chances to take the game, though it was the Bluebirds' rugged defensive display in the second half that ensured the home support would go home frustrated.
"I thought we defended as a team really well, our shape was excellent," said the City Boss.
"There were a couple of scuffles around the goalmouth, but most of what was coming in was long-range shots.
"I thought, in the second half especially, our two centre-backs headed everything away and defended very stoutly.
"It’s a clean sheet, it's our fifth point away from home and I'm delighted about that."
And when questioned on the controversial moment during the dying embers of the fixture - which saw striker Leroy Fer selfishly put the ball in the back of the net after David Marshall had put the ball in touch to allow Alexander Tettey treatment - Malky responded: "Immediately Colin (Calderwood) and Chris (Hughton) came up and said, 'If Mick Jones gives it, we'll let you walk it into our net'.
"There was complete calmness from both benches. The boys were a little bit heated, but I think common sense prevailed.
"Everyone in the stadium, saw that it would've been an awful end to a football game and would've been poor for our league which is held in high regard throughout the world."
