GARY'S CHILE BEAT ENGLAND

Medel and eight others represent their countries

A total of nine Cardiff City players represented their countries during the first week of International fixtures.

Gary Medel played and impressed once again for Chile as he completed the full 90 minutes at Wembley to help ‘La Roja’ to a 2-0 win over England.

With qualification already secured for next summer’s World Cup of course, the friendly in London acted as ideal preparation for the South American side with City’s Gary Medel showing his class and versatility to slot in at centre back in London and claim a clean sheet.

Medel and Chile now fly to Toronto, Canada for their next preparation match against World Cup hosts Brazil on Tuesday night in a battle of the South American giants.



Fellow midfielder Aron Gunnarsson captained Iceland to a 0-0 draw with Croatia in their World Cup qualification first-leg tie in Reykjavik, playing the majority of the second-half with ten men.

It was a valuable draw in the end for the home side following the dismissal of midfielder Olafur Ingi Skulason just five minutes into the second-half, the draw making it a winner takes all tie in Zagreb on Tuesday night.



Elsewhere, City goalkeeper David Marshall reclaimed the number one jersey for Scotland as he played the full 90 for Gordon Strachan’s side in 0-0 draw with USA at Hampden Park. City’s Craig Conway, currently on-loan with Brighton and Hove Albion, also played 84 minutes for the Scots.

Already qualified for next summer’s World Cup of course, South Korea and City star Kim Bo Kyung played the first-half of South Korea's 2-1 victory over Switzerland in Seoul.

Korea continue their World Cup preparations on Tuesday as they take on Russia in Dubai.



There was also plenty of action for some of City’s youngsters last week as Josh Yorwerth, Abdi Noor, Tommy O'Sullivan, Declan John and Bradley Wickham represented Wales Under-19s in Georgia.

They lost 5-1 to the hosts on Wednesday, 13th November but responded well in their next game to draw 0-0 with Holland. Wales face Moldova in a final qualification match needing a victory to have any hope of making the second round of qualification for next summer’s finals in Hungary.
