Cardiff City Women won the Welsh Premier League title following a 5-2 victory over Wrexham Ladies at Cardiff City Stadium on Sunday. Goals on the afternoon came courtesy of Rachel Rowe, Danielle Broadhurst (2) and Alicia Davies (2).
The Bluebirds and Cardiff Metropolitan University went into the final round of fixtures tied on fifty-four points each. But City had a much healthier plus fifteen goal difference over last season's Champions, meaning the University would need to beat their opponents Llandudno by a significant margin should City beat Wrexham. Their 8-1 victory would ultimately not prove to be enough, in conjunction with Cardiff City's victory.
Cardiff City Women lost just one fixture during the course of the entire season, retaining top spot in the Welsh Premier League since September. This has been seen as a fantastic achievement by the squad - mentored by coaches Joel Hutton, Mike Hayward and Tom Hutton - and ensures their participation in next season's UEFA Women's Cup.
