U18s SLIP TO COLCHESTER DEFEAT

16th March
City’s U18 side fell to a 3-1 loss at home to Colchester United on March 16th.
City’s young left winger Anthony Bell was the first to try his luck for the home side, though his twenty five yard low drive was well saved by the U’s keeper.
It was a quick break from the back by Colchester that lead to them opening the scoring in the twenty seventh minute and despite some intense City pressure the Academy found themselves a goal behind at the break.
An early second half goal for Colchester looked like it had all but sealed the game, before the home side halved the deficit. In a fine team move involving Macauley Southam, Robbie Patten managed to get on the end of a City cross on eighty three minutes to give the home side a real chance of getting something from the game.
But the match was finally put beyond the hosts when the referee deemed Liam Matthews to have fouled a Colchester attacker inside the area. The penalty kick was slotted into the back of the net in injury time to seal the win for the visitors.
