MALKY NOT FEARING NAIVETY
Malky Mackaytook time out from his squad’s Dubai training camp this week to update us on his thoughts concerning City’s Championship mission and new signing Fraizer Campbell.
City lead the nPower Championship by ten points from nearest rivals Leicester and Hull, and the Gaffer noted the consistency with which his side are now playing.
“We’ve earned four away wins in a row and must keep that momentum going,” he said. “It’s crucial that we look at each match as it comes along though and don’t try to look further ahead.
“One defeat in our last thirteen matches is a run of results we are proud of and there is no secret to that. We have quality, but we also work hard for each other and play for each other.”
And in reference to the big news of the past few days – the acquisition of England striker Fraizer Campbell from Sunderland – the boss commented:“Over the last few months I’ve been asked what I needed. Well, I needed another quality forward and Fraizer is that. He comes into our group and adds to the group.
“We were very pleased to get him. He is someone who has been on our radar for quite a few months. He was someone we had been tracking and hoping something would come to fruition.
“He’s not here just with the order to score goals though. He’s here really to add to my squad.”
"If we see something that can give us some defensive cover then we will do something, but if we don't, I won't.As to whether we’ll see further additions to the City squad during the remaining eight days of the transfer window, Malky told Wales Online:
"The main target this transfer window was to go and try and get an extra forward in that was going to add quality and I think we have done that with Fraizer. If it comes up fine, if it doesn't so be it.
"Young Ben Nugent has come in and done incredibly well, so that's something for me to think about."
