Mason also held special praise for Kim Bo-Kyung and Jordon Mutch who have both also found playing time limited of late, but who combined to devastating effect in the Bluebirds midfield ranks yesterday.

“I thought Kim and Jordon were both brilliant today,” he said. “It just shows what we’ve got coming off the bench at the club and the ability we have to give some lads a bit of breather.”

While it was City’s attacking prowess that impressed against Rovers, Joe was also full of praise for the defensive unit, primarily new arrival Leon Barnett, who took the club’s clean sheet tally for the season to a league leading fifteen. All in all, like all at the club Joe was delighted more than anything with the quick response that the side had shown after the weekend’s minor setback.

“Leon (Barnett) has come in and slotted in really well, and I thought the whole of the back four looked really solid,” Joe said.

“We came into this game knowing that three points would be massive for us and we’ve all applied ourselves properly, picked ourselves up from the disappointment at Peterborough and showed everyone what we’re about.”
