“We always want to make a statement and show that we are a good team and I think other sides know that we are just that.” Gunnarsson said. “We needed to get the job done against Forest and we certainly did and we got three points that takes us closer to where we want to be. It’s not over yet though and we still need to work hard to secure the remaining points that are needed.”
After experiencing disappointment in the Championship play-offs last season, Aron believes the influence of experienced Championship players has helped City this time round.
“You’ve seen the experience we have with the players Malky Mackay and his staff have brought in. We have players who have got through the Championship and won promotion before and I think the gaffer’s done well in getting the players he has to the club in the likes of Craig Bellamy, Heidar Helguson and Tommy Smith.
“It’s always important to have players that have had that experience before, but also the team is full of good players. The squad is bigger now than last year and it’s how well we reacted to being top and not letting anyone affect us really.
“We’ve been top since late November, we’ve kept cool heads and got on with it and tried not to think about anyone else. It’s not finished yet, not at all. We’ve still got four games to go and one more point will seal it for us.”
Cardiff City Stadium will next host Charlton Athletic on Tuesday night following their impressive 6-0 win over Barnsley – and Aron knows full well that it will not be an easy game for Mackay’s men to gain the point they need to seal a place in the Premier League.
“The fans obviously want to see us secure promotion; they’ve been fantastic this year and have given us so much support throughout the season,” he said. “They deserve to see us do it at home, but it’s going to be a hard game on Tuesday night against Charlton - we know that, especially after seeing that they beat Barnsley 6-0 this weekend. Charlton are a good team and we will have to be at our best to get anything from the game on Tuesday.”
