TOMMY: WE'VE A GREAT PLATFORM NOW

"There's plenty of good stuff out there, there's also plenty to work on, but it's a great platform to build on."

Those were the positive words of City forward Tommy Smith following the Bluebirds' fine 3-1 home win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon. Speaking exclusively to cardiffcityfc.co.uk post-match, the recent acquisition was full of praise for his new side's efforts.

"It's great to get off and running with the three points today," said the former Queen's Park Rangers man. "It was a bit frustrating to have gone a goal down but we showed great character to come back so quickly and once we went 2-1 up we never really looked back after that."

Smith, who made his debut a week ago at Bristol City, was keen to stress the side's positive approach and formation for the drastically improved showing from a week ago.

"We set out to score goals today and we created plenty of chances, the only disappointing thing may be that we sat back a little too much in the end. It had been a tough game though, and at 3-1 up you don't want to push too far forward, concede a second and have to look over your shoulder again - it's a catch twenty-two situation.

"Hopefully it's just going to get better and better. There were a few things we picked up on that didn't go quite so smoothly but it went really well considering there were four home debuts in there."

With an international break now upcoming, Smith was philosophical about the chance to build on this performance through training rather than having another Championship performance right around the corner.

"In a way it's nice - we've got two weeks now to work hard together and get to know each other, work on things that we need to improve on, build on them and go from strength to strength."
