Although City's winning home record for the 2012/13 season had come to an end, Whittingham was already looking ahead to bouncing back from the defeat.

“It was really frustrating for us; I felt that if we had got the goal a little sooner we would have definitely been in with a shout," said the midfielder.

"It’s very disappointing but it’s all about kicking on from here. We’ve lost in the past and we’ve gone on a little run afterwards so it’s all about bouncing back. We’ve got a very tough game next week but it’s one that we are looking forward to so we will concentrate on that.

“Over Christmas the games come thick and fast; we’ve got a couple of hard games coming up and it’s a chance to put things right. It wasn’t good enough from us against Peterborough but we’ll go again.

“You can never complain about the attitude of these boys, they keep going right until the end. I thought we were sloppy in areas, the first twenty minutes we didn’t really get near them. After that we had the upper hand and then their second goal killed us. It’s annoying for us because it’s a sucker punch; we’re in the game at 1-0 and we still fancy our chances to win the game, but at 2-0 you start thinking about looking for a draw instead of a win.

“Fair play to Peterborough, they came here and played their stuff, played a lot of football and passed it from the back. The goalkeeper distributed it where ever he could and it was a credit to football. It was our own errors today more than anything else. We’ll look at it on Tuesday and try and make it right on Saturday at Leicester.”
